New Life Nyambene is committed to creating a better future for some of the most disadvantaged and stigmatised children in Africa. Our mission is to rescue and rehabilitate abandoned street children in Kenya and to give them the educational opportunities that are their best chance of escaping destitution.
Twenty Five Years!
It seems hardly possible, but New Life Nyambene has existed for a quarter of a century!
Over those years, we have seen 20 children grow to adulthood, able to care not only for themselves but dependents also – we have 10 gorgeous grandchildren!
Some have qualified with degrees – in medicine and teaching, others with diplomas or certificates in a variety of disciplines and trades: we have qualified electricians, plumbers, beauticians, hairdressers, dressmakers, carpenters, mechanics and drivers among our alumni.

When David and Emmanuel, pictured here, first came to us last year, they were in such an advanced stage of starvation that they could only be fed one spoonful every two hours, to stretch their stomachs gradually back to normal. Look at them now!!
It is thanks entirely to your generosity that we have arrived this far. It is indeed wonderful! – you are wonderful.
Now we enter the final stage of our work – creating sustainability.
And to do that…..
…look what we have bought!
8 acres of prime quality land.We are full of plans for our new home. It is ten times the size of the plot we began with, fertile, with abundant water, and within a mile of the Meru National Park. So much can be achieved here!
Apart from the buildings necessary to give the children a family home, we are planning to grow our own food, farm goats and sell their produce, serve the community with a medical clinic (staffed by our own alumni), provide guest accommodation and a tourist package for those wishing to visit the Meru National Game Park (less than a mile away), and maybe even open a small school to help traumatised new children catch up before we send them on into mainstream schooling.
We have also been contending for our original land stolen from us by fraud. July saw the thief finally convicted and imprisoned, and our rights legally vindicated.
And this is the wonderful team that has achieved it!
We have established renewed possession of our original plot by fencing it off. Now we have another asset – currently run down, but in a good position in the town for development or sale.
Miriam visited again this summer, and was able to see it all. But above all, the joy of the visit was quality time spent playing with the younger children, talking for hours with those who are older, and being Mum to everyone.
When this picture was taken on the new land, Miriam was looking round and considering all the work that must be done and the money it will cost to give the children what they need. -They weren’t! They were simply feeling happy.
Our biggest challenge grows out of our greatest blessing. These small ones and new ones have no doubt in their minds that they will be provided for just as surely as their older brothers and sisters have been. They know that they are safe, and so they are happy and looking forward to the homes they have no doubt will spring up for them.
They have no concept that their future is entirely in the hands of the generosity of new funding and the faithfulness of established sponsors.
